A key element in the American Retro Museum program are the retro illustrations from the classic "Elf Books" series produced by US publisher Rand McNally. A renowned and recognized company name in map publishing, Rand McNally also published series of children's books from 1947 to 1986 under the "Elf Book" brand name and its titles have over the years been published also in Plus Licens territories. The Elf Books were some of the first original high-quality and low-price titles in the history of children's publishing, for the first time combining literary and artistic excellence with mass market distribution. The series have throughout the years been a mirror of children's culture, with many timeless creations that have been read and loved by generations of children. The art, however, does not necessarily need to rely on nostalgia for childhood memories, but has the ability to invoke feelings in all fans of good art and design with a retro element.
In addition, the American Retro Museum design program focuses on "the Golden Age of Children's Records", with great album art from publishers and labels such as Cricket Records, Golden Records and The Children's Record Guild from 1946 to 1959. More than 200 works of vintage album art and picture discs are now available for fashion merchandising as well as other kinds of product merchandising and promotions. The American Retro Museum record cover art combines childhood nostalgia and innocence with contemporary fashion. Packaging can be designed to emulate album covers by featuring the same retro artwork on the box.
Plus Licens represents The Toon Studio of Beverly Hills for merchandising, promotional and publishing rights to The American Retro Museum in the Nordic countries and Eastern Europe.
