The upcoming illustrated story book
Flora's hill by renowned Swedish artist Kristina Digman takes children on a journey to the wilderness of a forgotten garden!
The title character Flora is one of the little people. She invites you to take a moment and gaze at the quietly poetic details and beauty of nature - a world inhabited by her friends the Bumble Bee, the Bird, the Frog and the Hedgehog and other small creatures that come and visit her.
Kristina Digman has had exhibitions in Sweden, Belgium, Japan and the US, and has also illustrated many books and participated in several anthologies. Her books have been published in Belgium, Canada, Denmark, France, Germany, Japan, Korea, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Turkey and the US.
In 2005, Kristina Digman received the Elsa Beskow prize, Sweden's most prestigious award for children's book illustrators. The jury's explanation for awarding Kristina provides a key to her artistry: "Ever since her debut as a children's book illustrator with Our secret garden in 2001, Kristina Digman has distinguished herself through a perspective close to nature. Her illustrations are sometimes even close to being sacred, the garden of Eden whispering in the background. We take delight in the small details, the full pages and spreads that contain so much boundless humour and sincerity. The children in the illustrations are portrayed in a soft dreamlike manner, sometimes almost melancholy, but there is also a sensitivity to the texts that reveals temperament and will-power. Her artistry is diversified; timeless as well as innovative".
Kristina Digman was born in 1959. After training at various art schools in Sweden, Kristina attended the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Copenhagen. She has worked for many years as an artist and illustrator, concentrating on miniatures inspired by the Middle Ages. She also finds inspiration in nature, often from a very close perspective - literally down to earth!
The Kristina Digman art library represented by Plus Licens also comprises illustrations from other books such as Lilla Vinterboken (The Little Winter Book), Snolyktor & Smultronstran ('Snow Lanterns and Wild Strawberries'), Lilla Appelboken ('Our Apple Tree') and Var hemliga tradgard ('Our Secret Garden').
