Inspired by Asian art and mythology, Avatar - The Last Airbender follows the adventures of 13-year-old Aang in a legendary world of four Nations (Water, Air, Earth, and Fire), where a select few, known as benders, have the ability to manipulate their native element. Once in a generation comes a chosen one who has the ability to manipulate all four elements - this is the Avatar. Aang, an Airbender, has returned after being frozen for 100 years to discover he is the last of a nation. His ability to manipulate all four elements sends him on a quest to master the elements and bring balance to a war-torn world. Aided by a protective teenage Waterbender named Katara and her bull-headed brother Sokka, Aang embarks on an epic journey of self-discovery and adventure to fulfill his destiny and defeat the Fire Nation.

The upcoming The Last Airbender theatrical film will feature stunning visual effects from Industrial Light & Magic. The film is produced by the most successful Hollywood producers of all time in terms of box office receipts, Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, the team behind productions such as Signs, The Sixth Sense, the Jurassic Park franchise, the Indiana Jones franchise, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial and the Back to the Future franchise. The Last Airbender will be backed by massive studio support from Viacom, the world's biggest media company. A new trailer is planned for theatrical launch for Holiday 2009, with studio advertising campaign to ramp up early 2010.

The animated series Avatar - The Last Airbender is the top Nickelodeon show in several European territories, including Scandinavia. In addition to being a top cartoon show for boys 6-11, Avatar - The Last Airbender is also a game and publishing success.
