THE LITTLE WOODEN BOY with the jingly blue hat and the nodding head has become one of the most beloved children's characters of the modern era. Generations of children have grown up with Enid Blyton's Noddy stories either through books or via a multitude of TV, video and stage adaptions.

The first Noddy book, Noddy Goes to Toyland, was published in 1949. Illustrated by the Dutch artist Harmsen van der Beek, it was an immediate success. Since then, hundreds of Noddy books of various shapes and sizes - including activity books, TV tie-ins, annuals and novelty books - have been produced.

Noddy's status as an enduring pre-school classic has been boosted by top-rating TV programmes. The international success of the BBC's stop-frame animation series Noddy was followed by Noddy in Toyland, a series produced by BBC Worldwide and Chorion which featured an exciting mix of animation and live-action wrap-arounds.

A new TV series, Make Way For Noddy, combines all the magic of the original books with the best in modern animation technology, bringing the colourful imagery of Toyland even more vividly to life. A brand new television series of of 52 x 11-minute episodes, Noddy in Toyland, is now in production for 2009, planned to feature an expanded Toyline environment and new characters and vehicles.

Noddy's popularity has generated a substantial worldwide licensing business. In the UK alone, Noddy has hundreds of licensed product covering all categories including toys, games, videos, clothing, accessories, gifts, stationery, household, toiletries and food.

The magical world of Noddy continues to win new friends around the world. Noddy recently made his publishing debut in the People's Republic of China with the publication by state-owned Beijing Publishing House of a Chinese translation of Enid Blyton's original 24-book series!

Noddy's adventures are set in the magical world of Toyland, a place where toys come to life and adventures never cease. There are wind-up clowns, bouncing balls, teddy bears, toy trains and houses made of colourful wooden blocks.

Joining Noddy is a colourful cast of friends and neighbours. They include Big-Ears, a 100-year old gnome who lives in Toadstool House in Toadstool Wood. Sporting a big white beard and a jolly face, Big-Ears is Noddy's most trusted friend and the source of much sensible advice and reassurance.

There's also Mr Plod, Toyland's ponderous policeman, and kind-hearted Tessie Bear. There's gravity-defying Mr Wobbly Man, market-stall owner Dinah Doll, jovial mechanic Mr Sparks, mischievous Martha Monkey, the supremely self-confident Miss Pink Cat and of course Bumpy Dog, Toy Town's favourite pet.

Noddy is Toyland's resident taxi driver, and wherever Noddy goes so does his famous red and yellow car which responds "Parp-Parp" whenever Noddy talks to it.

Much of the mischief that takes place in Toyland is set in motion by two naughty goblins, Sly and Gobbo. Living in the Dark Wood, just outside Toy Town (the capital of Toyland), Sly and Gobbo are always conjuring up new ways to disrupt the orderly life of Toyland.
