Pettson lives deep in the countryside and has little contact with other human beings, and so he is considered a little awkward and uncouth. His temperamental cat Findus thinks Pettson is just plain good fun and is happy to accompany (and look out for) Pettson on all of his errands and on the odd adventure, too. The lessons they learn together and from each other reflect a standard of traditional story telling with imagination and heart.
The Pettson and Findus animated series has been produced in 26 x 15-minute episodes (13 x 30 minutes) and three 75-minute films have also been developed: Pettson and Findus - The Cat and the Old Man's Year (1999), The Cat-o-Naut (2000) and Pettson's Promise/The Tomte Machine (2005). Pettson and Findus animation is a co-production of TV-Loonland, Swedish Happy Life Animation and London-based Telemagination, and also produced in cooperation with ZDF and ZDF-Enterprises in Germany and A.Film in Denmark. In Plus Licens territories, the series and/or the films have been sold to TVP Poland, Magyar Televízió in Hungary, Ceska televize in the Czech Republic, Slovenska televízia in Slovakia, RTV in Slovenia, and Minimax in Hungary, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia. In Hungary, Pettson and Findus has also been seen on Duna TV.
In April 2001, the Pettson and Findus series received the Pulcinella Award at Cartoons on the Bay, an international TV cartoon festival held in Positano, Italy. In July 2001, it won the Golden Telix for best cartoon film/series, an award sponsored by the German TV guides Gong and Bild+Funk. In 2001, it was nominated as License Theme of the Year for the LIMA Award. In 2005, the popular cartoon series took fivefold platinum in Germany for sales of more than 250.000 videos and DVDs of the first Pettson and Findus movie, and double platinum for sales of more than 100.000 videos as well as gold for sales of more than 150.000 audio plays of the second TV series Fireworks for the Fox & Other Stories and gold both for sales of more than 150.000 audio plays of the third TV series Uproar in the Vegetable Patch & Other Stories and for the second movie The Cat-O-Naut.
