The animated series SpongeBob SquarePants launched in the US in the summer of 1999 and soon became one of the highest-rated cartoons on US television. Today, SpongeBob SquarePants reaches 57.8 million viewers monthly in the US. 25% of the viewers are adults. The series now runs in 112 countries worldwide. 109 episodes are currently available.

To date, SpongeBob SquarePants has seen more than $7.5 billion in worldwide retail sales, is currently being syndicated in over 170 markets worldwide, and has in less than 3 years sold more than 7 million magazine units in major international markets. SpongeBob SquarePants is a top brand which already has an impressive appeal across gender and age groups. In Plus Licens' territories, SpongeBob SquarePants is or has recently been seen on TV in Sweden (TV 4), Norway (NRK), Denmark (DR), Finland (Nelonen), Iceland (365 Media), Hungary (TV 2) and Russia (TNT). SpongeBob SquarePants is also regularly seen on the Nickelodeon channel in all territories.
Created by marine biologist/animator Stephen Hillenburg, the series features a humanoid sponge, SpongeBob SquarePants, his dumb starfish pal Patrick Star, the stingy octopus Squidward Tentacles, the cheapskate crab Mr. Krabs, and the overly hyper squirrel Sandy Cheeks. Most episodes take place in the characters' home town of Bikini Bottom.
Plus Licens represents MTV Networks for merchandising, promotional, publishing and home video rights to SpongeBob SquarePants in the Nordic countries and Eastern Europe.
