JUST ABOUT ANYTHING can happen in Teletubbyland - over the hills and far away, where Tinky Winky, Dipsy, Laa-Laa and Po live and play.

The Teletubbies are funny, warm, playful and silly characters who live in a visually striking and vibrant world, designed to appeal to young children. It is no coincidence that Teletubbies have established themselves as a very strong pre-school brand, considering the extensive research, innovation and creative energy that lies behind the show.

Teletubbyland is a land where the magic windmill blows in wonderful things and surprises are always round the corner. The baby-faced sun smiles down on the landscape of rolling hills, voice-trumpets and talking flowers while the brightly coloured Teletubbies play. They live in their Tubbytronic Superdome hidden among the hills and humming with the play technology that supplies their every need: Tubby Toast, Tubby Custard and a conscientious vacuum cleaner, the Noo-noo, who keeps the interior of the superdome tidy.

When the magic windmill starts to turn, the Teletubbies know that something magical is about to happen!

Once described as "the first TV series designed for an audience that still chews on the remote control", Teletubbies has a warm and wonderful appeal to young children all over the world. The program was launched in the UK in 1997 and has since then been sold into 92 broadcasters in 70 countries.

The target market for Teletubbies is children up to the age of 4 years. The characters interact with the child and seek to communicate some very special messages: Teletubbies love each other very much. Teletubbies love to sing. Teletubbies love to dance. Teletubbies love their favourite things and love to interact with Teletubbyland. These are the key messages that give the Teletubbies their unique appeal!

The Teletubbies were created over a period of two years by producer Anne Wood and writer Andrew Davenport. The TV program is based on serious and extensive research on children's behaviour, and is designed purely for very young children. Teletubbies is designed to make children feel confident, relaxed, and ready to learn. First and foremost, Teletubbies is entertainment with a focus on play.

Says co-creator Anne Wood: "I believe television and video are the most underestimated force for good in educating our children in the technological age in which we live. It is important to develop children's thinking skills. A child has to be able to develop the capacity to watch and listen at the same time. That's why children go back to favourite tapes and books time and time again. /.../ Those who say 'I never let my child watch television' are denying their children this opportunity to learn."

Plus Licens represents BBC Worldwide for merchandising and promotional rights to Teletubbies in the Nordic countries, Poland, the Czech Republic, Macedonia, Slovakia, Serbia and Montenegro.
