Japanese publishing company Gakken Co., Ltd. is divided into five business segments. The Direct Sales segment produces educational materials and pre-school formats, magazines for parents and caretakers, kindergarten supplies, textbooks for schools and public offices, video software, office automation (OA) equipment and nursing care goods. The Commercial segment sells magazines, books and other publishing materials through subscription agents, and also handles toys and up-market products. The three other segments handle financial business, higher studies and digital and multimedia products and activities.
