Marathon was founded in 1990 by Olivier Brémond and Pascal Breton. In 1999, Vincent Chalvon-Demersay joined the Group in order to develop animation production.

Marathon International, which was also created in 1990, is the Group's international sales division; it distributes both Marathon's programs and acquisitions from other producers around the world.
Marathon opened an animation studio in Berlin in 2000.

Today, The Marathon Group employs over 30 permanent staff members. Two hundred other people work for Marathon on an semi-permanent basis.

On the strength of several early successful series, Marathon Productions' animation section has become one of the fastest growing producers of animated programming in Europe, currently developing high quality long-running series in association with American, German, Canadian and Italian partners.
