The Associated Students UCLA, often called ASUCLA for short, is the not-for-profit organization which operates the student union, bookstores, restaurants and trademarks and licensing at UCLA. ASUCLA employs over 1.500 UCLA students each year.
ASUCLA was created when UCLA first opened its doors back in 1919. Even in the very early years, ASUCLA meant student government, student publications, and student services such as a bookstore and cafeteria. Today, ASUCLA has evolved into a four-part organization: Undergraduate Students Association, Graduate Students Association, Student Media and Services & Enterprises (inclusding UCLA Trademarks & Licensing).
On behalf of the university and the regents of the University of California, UCLA Trademarks & Licensing's primary role is to protect and promote the use of the university's marks and the reputation they represent. Besides its substantial licensing activities, UCLA Trademarks & Licensing also monitors other commercial and internal use of the marks and is responsible for the administration of over 300 UCLA trademark and servicemark registrations worldwide.
