A WELL-KNOWN DILEMMA FOR COMIC BOOK ARTISTS and other illustrators is how pen sketches often seem to lose life in the inking process - when the vivacity and freshness of the original drawing gets transformed into a definite ink line. If ever seen at all outside the artist's studio, the original pen concepts have often been confined to art exhibitions, exclusive prints and expensive coffee table books for a limited audience. But now, the new art program Marvel Concepts makes these great artistic achievements available for merchandising use in the high-end market!

Marvel Concepts is a sub-program to the comic-book-oriented Marvel Comics license, available for Marvel Comics licensees aiming for product lines to be distributed by high-end retailers. The Marvel Concepts program combines the iconic qualities of Marvel's world-famous heroes with the impressive artistic abilities of some of today's most talented comic book artists, bringing new dimensions to the entire area of character merchandising.

"Our artists", Marvel legend Stan Lee once wrote, "must not only draw the stories but must draw them quickly because of their never-ending deadlines. What's more, they must draw them dramatically, clearly and excitingly. Though they create more than a hundred panels for each typical comicbook, no two drawings can be alike. Each must be a different pose, a different angle, a different perspective, with different facial expressions and an endless variety of layouts, as well as all the subtle permutations of light and shading. - Perhaps that's why thousands of people all over the world inundate us with mail, enthusiastically commenting about our artwork and stories."
