The Buckets
, the frenetically funny family comic strip by written by Scott Stantis and illustrated by Greg Cravens, offers a realistic snapshot of modern family life: the worries, the mayhem and the often-overlooked rewards. Examining everyday chaos with a healthy sense of humor, it strikes a chord with parents who juggle the many demands and the mild insanity of raising a family today.
Stantis is currently editorial cartoonist for The Birmingham News. He was previously editorial cartoonist for The Orange County Register, The Arizona Republic, the Tucson Citizen and the Memphis Commercial Appeal. It was while working at the latter that his two sons were born, along with the comic strip The Buckets, which bears a striking resemblance to Stantis' real life.
Stantis lives in Alabama with his wife, their two boys and a dog named Dogzilla. Cravens graduated from the University of Memphis in 1987. He met Stantis while still in college and later called him up with questions about becoming a cartoonist. When, years and years later, Stantis decided to concentrate on writing The Buckets, Cravens was quick to point out that he could mimic Stantis' art style. They began collaborating in 2001, with Stantis continuing to write the strip and Cravens taking over the illustration duties. In addition to The Buckets, Cravens draws children's activity books, an editorial cartoon for the Broward County (Fla.) City Link and advertising cartoons. Cravens lives in Memphis with his wife, two sons and their dog.
