For a family strip with bite, you can't do better than The Grizzwells. Created by Bill Schorr, The Grizzwells features a four-bear family of grizzlies.
The daily comic has been syndicated by Newspaper Enterprise Association since 1987. Schorr's quick wit, penchant for puns and razor-sharp observations make for a roller-coaster ride of laughs. Edgy, bright and quick, Schorr's writing is refreshing. The loose pen strokes of his illustrations are of the caliber that was once considered standard fare on the comics page. Schorr admits The Grizzwells is loosely based on his own family life - with a twist. For example, like many husbands and wives, Gunther and Flora argue about taking out the garbage. But Flora also complains about her husband eating the garbage!
Schorr began his career as an editorial cartoonist for the Kansas City Star. He then spent several years with the Los Angeles Herald Examiner before returning again to the Star. He was staff editorial cartoonist at the New York Daily News from 1997 to 2001. His editorial cartoons are distributed by United Feature Syndicate. In creating The Grizzwells, Schorr wanted to do a simple family-oriented strip: "Since human characters dominate most of my editorial cartoons, I didn't want to draw them in my strip as well. My younger daughter has been collecting bears forever and she thought bears would be perfect subject matter." Schorr was born in New York City and grew up in Albuquerque, N.M., and Riverside, California.
Plus Licens represents United Feature Syndicate and Newspaper Enterprise Association for syndication rights to The Grizzwells in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia.
