KidCity panel sample

KidCity is a fun and educational daily and Sunday feature developed by Sesame Workshop and United Feature Syndicate. Written and illustrated by Steve McGarry, KidCity is designed to familiarize school-age children with different parts of the newspaper. Based on material created by the Sesame Workshop publishing group, KidCity is written for kids 6 - 12 years old and is designed to engage them on the comics page with puzzles, activities, scavenger hunts and trivia.

KidCity's Sunday feature has three parts: "Use the News", an activity encouraging kids to work with the rest of the newspaper; "True but Strange", bits of trivia illustrated in a fun, comic style; and a section offering puzzles, word searches and games that tie into the theme of the day. Each KidCity weekday panel has an educational theme - "Time Travel" (history), "Sci-Lab", "Planet" (geography), "Math-a-Rama" or "Tech Zone" - and the Saturday panel is a puzzle.

Steve McGarry was born and raised in England. A prolific freelance cartoonist and illustrator, McGarry made his national newspaper debut in The Daily Star. His previous comic and illustration endeavors include "Diary of Rock & Pop"; "Badlands"; "Biography"; a weekly feature in U.K. soccer magazine Shoot; and "Pop Culture." McGarry's sports and entertainment features continue to appear in magazines and newspapers throughout the world. He was voted onto the board of directors of the National Cartoonists Society in 1999 and elected NCS President in 2001. McGarry, his wife, Debs, and their twin sons, Joe and Luke, live in Southern California.
