World of Wonder
is a weekly illustrated feature page devoted to exploring educational themes and examining the realms of history, science, nature and technology. Well-researched and beautifully illustrated in full color, World of Wonder's sophisticated graphics clarify a wide variety of subjects and concepts. Available in full-standard and half-standard sizes, World of Wonder appears in 80 newspapers throughout the US.
Created in 1997 by Laurie Triefeldt, an award-winning graphic journalist, World of Wonder demystifies subjects such as "storms", "castles", "bugs", "Vikings" and "ancient Greece". Written in a reader-friendly style and accompanied by colorful illustrations, World of Wonder gives the reader mini-lessons on everything from predicting the weather to the lifecycle of the Monarch butterfly.
World of Wonder won the Association of Educational Publishers' 2002 Distinguished Achievement Award for Excellence in Educational Publishing in the category of Department/Column for Young Adults; first place in the Design and Presentation/Graphics Portfolio category of the New Jersey Press Association's 2000 Better Newspaper Contest; second place in the Informational Graphics category from The Society of Professional Journalists/New Jersey chapter in 2001, and first and third places in the same category in 2000. Triefeldt has worked for The Courier Post and The Windsor Star, contributed to Gannett News Service and United Feature Syndicate, and is currently an artist at the Newark Star-Ledger. Educated in Canada, she is a graduate of the Ontario College of Art and the University of Windsor.
Plus Licens represents United Feature Syndicate and Newspaper Enterprise Association for syndication rights to World of Wonder in Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Macedonia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, the Slovak Republic and Slovenia.
